You are eligible for the abortion pill up to 10 weeks of pregnancy. If you are past 6 weeks of pregnancy, please contact us for financial assistance services here.
Is the abortion pill the same as the morning after pill?
The morning after pill (Plan B) is a form of emergency contraceptive that prevents pregnancy before it happens and is effective within 3 days of having unprotected sex. The abortion pill terminates an occurring pregnancy within the first 6 weeks of pregnancy.
What should I expect at my appointment and what do I need?
You will need to bring in your form of payment as well as a picture ID such as a driver’s license or passport. We accept cash, credit, and debit; we do not accept checks. You should expect to be in the office for about an hour. (Please fill out the patient forms found on this site beforehand to hasten your appointment.) During that time you will fill out some paperwork if you have not done so already, have an ultrasound. Due to the new Florida state law in 2024, if the patient is eligible for the medication abortion, they will be given the first pill by the physician in person at their second appointment. The second medication will be given to the patient to take home.
How does the abortion pill work?
The abortion pill is more accurately described as a succession of two medications. The 1st dose, Mifepristone, will be taken here in our office and will cause the body to block progesterone which causes the uterine lining to thin and the body to miscarry. The 2nd dose, Misoprostol, is taken at home and will cause the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy.
How effective is the abortion pill?
The abortion pill is very effective. It has been our experience that taking Mifepristone followed by Misoprostol is 95%-97% effective within the first 6 weeks of pregnancy.
